Production Meeting. (3)
Production Meeting. - 3
In this production meeting, we have all decided to rethink our ideas again. As our old ideas were too fast paced and had to much action being shown, our film opening became more like a trailer.
Our decision was that we would keep with the home video filming style, like Noah and Ava were filming themselves (With the battery life and dare still shown). During this filming, they will pan around themselves so the audience are able to catch a glimpse of the clown in the background. When the clown is spotted, the camera quickly switches back to a medium close up shot of Noah as he spins around to see if there is actually a clown behind him. This shot will not show the clown in it, before it fades to black and the title appears. There will be various shots throughout the opening scene, linking back too a room where pictures of the couple are seen to be burning or their eyes being scratched out. This will keep happening multiple times, so the audience can interpret there is someone out for revenge but is not noticed by Noah (The male victim) as he is shown to think it's his imagination.

Production Meeting. (2)
Production Meeting
Last meeting we all decided on a basic storyline that will create an film opening. We all choose to assign us different tasks that can be completed but also tasks that they we will do together to complete on a fair opinion. This production meeting will be about the conventions that is needed in our film opening but also the classifications and why these are needed.
Classification:
The film opening:
The chosen classification is 15. The reason for this is that it contains violence, strong language to an extent and blood to a certain extent. The reason we are not choosing an 18 is because the violence and language in not frequent and there is no sexual/ nudity revealed in this clip.
Trailer:
The chosen classification is 15. The reason for this is that the same rules which we have kept through the film opening will also be used in the trailer as the scenes will show this sort of content throughout the film that is sensible for a 15 and older viewer or audience.
Conventions:
- Location - We will use a field with an empty park at about dusk when it starts to become dark. This field and park contains bushes as well which can also be used. The filming will take place obviously at dark, but also when it is quite and not populated with other people.
- Blood - We will have a pool of blood next to the male victim's body when he is found by his female girlfriend/ friend. The knife will also contain this. The blood will be placed upon watered down fake blood.
- Death. - The male victim dies in this film opening
- Scary music. - This will be edited through the clip, once the film has been filmed
- Scary costume. - The clowns mask will be wore by the killer
- Abnormal behaviour. - Kidnapping and the murderer the killer does.
- Dark lighting. - We will be filming at dusk which makes the film opening dark throughout but has enough lighting for the audience to be able to see what is happening
- Weapons. - The killer will be shown with a blood covered knife which would be used and resemble violence.
We have had a bit of discussion and have come to the conclusion over our opening in which we have created an alternative idea. We have decided that instead of the 'Killer' murdering the boy and then the girl going to go find the boy, we have changed it too that the Killer can walk up behind them before stabbing the man, after the stabbing from behind he will place the knife in the male victims hand to make it look like a suicide. Before the girl can run away after trying to protect the male victim, the killer then lifts her up and walks away with her. The filming of this will all be handheld camera actions as the actors will 'pretend' too film their selves in the park about eachother. At the beginning the killer will be seen in the background of the camera, later when the man is killed, the camera will drop and fall to the side while filming the action of the kidnapping.

Main influences. - Planning Film opening.
Main Influences
Many horror films create a big influence on the audience as if they could create a film opening theirselves. Unlike them, we can. The following films revealed with their own plot summaries will be bullet pointed on what the influences are shown. These can be from lighting too sound to other things. At the end of the bullet points, a brief explanation of the positives and negatives of the film opening will be explained.
Dark Touch - Created in 2013.
Dark touch is a film based in a remote town in Ireland. This eleven year old girl called Niamh finds herself a sole survivor of a bloody massacre, which killed also killed her parents and younger brother. Due to suspicion that the massacre was a gang if homicidal vandals, the police ignore the explanation from Neve, that the house is the culprit. Neve was soon taken in by the dutiful neighbours to help ease the trauma with the supervision of a social worker. This troubles Neve's peace more, as she tries to find it among the wholesome and nurturing couple, and horrific danger which continues to manifest.

- To begin the film opening, the production logo of IFC was shown with its personal animation. The music was also revealed to be cheery instead of eerie, before the whole production logo faded to black after a few seconds of revealing itself.
- The eerie music of a piano playing but also a violin together was played throughout, this music became tensing and on-edge for the audience watching.
- Against the black background, the white text in small is shown to appear to reveal the credits to the film. The all used the fade in and fade out effect. The black background faded out after the credits for the participation of other fundings, productions and images was shown.
- The scenes for the film opening faded in, in very dark lighting which had also a blue tint. The only light shown was through little amounts as a reflection or the highlight of an object. The first fade in shot, revealed the side of a shelving unit.
- While the scenes were shown through two different camera movements, the credits continued in white text across them all until these scenes completely faded out.
- The two camera shots in this film opening was the movement of the pan shot and tilt shot. These would have been used to reveal the full imagery of the furniture in the house in a more eye-catching way. Even though the furniture was shown unclearly in the dark lighting effects, the camera movements managed to travel from one piece to another and gave the audience the clear idea that it was actually furniture being shown.
- Cut-ins was also used, when the rooms changed or the close-up shots of objects changed but kept the same camera movement. These cut-ins were used regularly and are extremely noticeable.
- When the inside of the house and furniture but also credits finished, the whole scenery faded out to black before the fade in of branches outside were revealed. While the branches kept a distraction for the audience to begin with, the focus began to slow disappear before the title 'Dark Touch' appears in capital letters but also in the colour white.
Title Ideas. - Planning film opening
Title Ideas.
Mind map with selection of possible titles, reduce down to three and then vote for the actual one.In our production meeting we have thought of and made up title ideas, after this we reduced them to our favourite three; Slaughtered, CLOWN and The Red Nose Murderer. After this, we thought carefully and decideded that the title CLOWN would fit perfectly into our film opening.

Preliminary task. - Video.
The preliminary task. - Video.
Evaluation:
In my preliminary task I went and chose to film my scenes in the corridor of a college building before then choosing too shoot it outside on the picnic bench. I used the actor Josh and actress Lauren to act out an emotional scene to the dialogue I created about, a man being shocked and having to tell his friend he saw a shooting. This then lead to the fact that he had too leave against his friends opinions.
I found that my preliminary task has both positive and negative factors. The positive factor of this video is that the conversation stayed fluent through out even when the over the shoulder shot reverse shot happened. This was a positive factor because it meant there was no interruptions for the audience to distract them from listening to the conversation but it also gives the audience a feeling like they're sitting there and watching it. The negative factors is that some scenes jump one to another. Examples of this is the second and third shot before the door, the scenes of Josh going to sit down on the bench and the scenes where Josh gets up and walks away. Another negative factor that stands out is the noise in the background e.g. the wind and another person walking in heels. These are negative factors because it causes distractions to the audience as they try and focus on the noise that's being made but also the noise covers up the conversation when the subjects talk.
An improvement I would make to this, would be to re-shoot the scenes again, this time I will keep someone on a watch out to stop people interrupting the video with noises but also appearing suddenly, my next improvement would then to be shoot this is another corridor and keep it all inside so the wind does not cover the conversation up either.

Storyboard. - The Truth.
Storyboard. - The truth. (Preliminary task.)
The storyboard did not have the embed code on the original programme Storyboard That. I have decided to link it in with a presentation to reveal each scene separately and them all together at the end.

Initial thoughts. - Film Opening.
For my film opening I would like to choose the horror genre. The following clips embedded will help me select small techniques that I can use in my own film opening, but also make it look as professional as cinema films.
Jessica's Room. - 2013.
The first selected film is Jessica's room. The beginning of this clip starts straight into a hand held camera work of a man as he acts like he is filming the scene himself. The quality of this camera work but also editing draws the audience in with reality as if this film was real, the fact that the hand held camera was still used through out till the younger girl killed the father, the audience become really focused as they feel the build up but also listen to the dramatic music being used. The beginning was only shown to reveal the text 'In memory of our friend, John Street'. This gives the audience the interpretation that the film is based on a true story. The credits and the title start two minutes through after the brief meeting with the father and child. The only name used was the daughters but not as an introduction to the camera as if they were talking the audience, this creates the audience to feel unease and full of questions as the brief description of 'three exorcisms' was the only information given. To help me with my own film opening, I would like to use the hand held camera work to give my audience the sense of reality, but I would also like to use the out of focus lines editing to make the audience believe that the 'camera is messing up' and the 'video is going'. This would keep their attention. The only thing about this film opening itself was the lighting that was not used very well, I will keep this is mind when filming mine so I know the audience can keep attached to the film as they can actually see what is happening through out.
The Haunting in Connecticut:
The second selected film I have watched the opening of is The Haunting in Connecticut. I really enjoyed the opening of this film as it really lured me in. The beginning of this film, the institutional information was shown. After this the sound of a piano gently playing started, this would have given the audience an automatic response of relating the film to young children. To continue this film opening photos were faded one after another of family members together looking extremely sad. The fact that all these photos are in sepia colour, creates the audience to link them back to the olden centuries when photography first came out. This all changes when quick flash in and flash outs of movement and different noise is shown. These quick clips that come through between each photo is of tools or someone sewing the skin to the body being revealed and blood pouring onto the floor. The noise creates more tension because the sound of cutting and clanging of metal is played against the sweet piano noise creating a big contrast and unease feel upon the audience. This would draw them in even more as they would not want to stop watching with the fact that they're questioning whether the sad photos of the people would link in with the close up clips of surgery and blood being poured to the floor. More tension is created after this when photos are being shown of either the people being dead or the living holding the dead as if they were still alive. This slightly answers the audiences questions and views with facts but not enough for them to know everything. This creates suspense when the title comes up and the opening scene of the film plays back like a flash back. What I enjoy about this film opening is the way the photos are connected with the body surgery which is shown in close up view. The piano playing in the background to put the audience unease really works well as well when the surgery noises are played against. It all gives the audience an ambiguous meaning. I also like the way the quick flashes of blackness is used to change from photo to photo but also to the movie action, keeping the audiences on their toes. For my film opening, I would like to use the black flashes between each scene as it keeps the audience close and their emotions wild. I would also like to use the close up actions of blood spilling and the noises of instruments against the non-diegetic sound.

Use of digital technology.
Livetype:
In todays Media session, we used livetype to create the opening titles of our movie clips but also the ending titles. I found to begin with, livetype a little confusing as there was many types of tabs and things to select. After doing some research by using YouTube to watch tutorials on how to use Livetype, I found this digital technology simple and easy to use. I managed to create different fonts on the text but also use a texture in the background. After this I simply browsed through the animations to select the types I would like to apply to the titles. The only technical difficulty I had in this clip was simply to select the render movie review, this lets me watch the titles in the view after it has been rendered before I can select Render movie. I found my way around this difficulty and managed to use that properly. I would like to use Livetype again.

Premium task. - Idea draft.
Evaluation:
Today I shot still photos for my ideas in which I will be videoing next. In this still photo story board I have made a few mistakes. This mistake I made was at the beginning two shots when I made them too similar with each other. I will improve this by creating a continuous shot as Ollie will walk past the camera. On the shots that Ollie will open the door, I will stay behind him before using a close up from behind of his hand. This will all change as when he goes to go through the door, I will move the camera a distance away on the other side for him to walk towards, this will turn into a tracking shot when he moves and goes and sits down in front of Emma. The next mistake I made was shooting the shot of Ollie approaching Emma who's sitting down on the bench. This was a mistake because the camera shot was at the wrong angle which meant Ollie would cover up the whole of Emma when he sits down.
After Ollie has sat down, I will choose to video an over the shoulder shot behind Ollie on his right hand side. This will then be followed by a shot reverse shot keeping on the 180 degrees rule. After the conversation, I will choose to end the conversations on an action shot as Emma will get up and walk away.

Conversation
Evaluation:
This conversation clip was based on using different types of shot types while filming a conversation. The shot types used are:
- Over the shoulder shot.
- Reaction shot.
- Master shot.
The positive point of this video is that all the clips flow through one into another. This is a positive factor because the audience are able to focus on the video and not realise that each clip was taken separately. The negative point of this video is that in the Establishing shot and master shot, Amelia was holding the juice box, but in the other the shoulder shots, she was not holding the juice box anymore. This creates inconsistency throughout the video and can highly confuse the audience.
Hide and Seek. Movie clip. (Screen shots)
Evaluation:
This is my Hide and Seek video. The positive point of this video all together is that the non-diegetic sound which is the mood music, went well with the action that was being shown. This is a positive factor because it can really keep the audience on the edge of their seats while the action draws them in. I believe that my video clip has a few negative points which can be revealed. These are:
- The title - I forgot to edit my name onto the title which is played at the beginning, so instead it comes up with 'Hide and Seek Goes Here'.
- The lighting of my work varies - This means that the lighting of the movie itself can be make it look average and can put the audience off of watching the clip.
- The clips do not flow properly into each other throughout - This means that each clip can be revealed to the audience as the clips were filmed separately.
The improvements I would personally make to this video clip would be to black out certain parts of the video so the mistakes of filming obvious separate clips can be covered up. I would also try and edit the lighting on each clip, so the different variety of lighting in each room is covered up. If I could film this video all over again, I would choose to complete it outside so the lighting stays the same but the movements of the camera and different camera shots can not be noticed from the different angles in a big space.

Shot types movie.
Evaluation:
This is my shot type video. In this video, I explored all the main shot types used in films, programmes and adverts. The positive point of this video is that all the shots are kept in the same lighting and link in one after another with the freeze frame. The classical music just gives a calm atmosphere to the audience learning the shot types. This is all is a positive factor because it helps the audience learn in a quick basic way instead of reading a lot of text as they also get experience with observing. Having the classical music just helps stop the audience from getting stressed while they learn. The negative point of this video is one of the subjects is caught 'scratching in places he shouldn't' in the Pan Shot. This is a negative factor, because the audience can either be put off of watching the rest of the clip or they can be slightly focused more on what the subject is doing instead of the type of the shot being used.

Shot types.
Include:
- Establishing Shot. - An establishing shot can go by the name of an extreme long shot. This shot is usually the first shot of a new scene because it is designed to show the audience where the action will take place. This shot is also usually taken as a very wide shot or an extreme wide shot.
- Long Shot. - This shot will show the character from head to toe.
- Medium Shot. - This shot is will be based on the characters waist and upwards to the head.
- Medium Close up Shot. -This shot will be based on the characters chest and upwards to the head.
- Close up. - A close up shot is a shot which is close up to the subjects face or object. Close up shots are used to show details such as expressions on a subjects face but can also be used as a cut in. This shot tends to always follow 'over the shoulder' shot.
- Extreme Close up - This shot will be based upon the object or Characters face, to show more detail after a lead up. This would direct the audiences attention to create an emotional reaction. This shot will only be used for a few seconds.
- Medium long shot - A shot from the characters knees and upwards to the head.
